2009 TELUS Cup

Rousseau Sports de Laval-Bourassa  5 -  Moncton Flyers  4

LAVOIE’S THREE POINTS LEAD LAVAL-BOURASSA TO OPENING WIN

SELKIRK, Man. – The Rousseau Sports de Laval-Bourassa are off and running on their quest for another Quebec Region medal at the National Midget Championship.

Alexandre Lavoie scored twice and added an assist and Kevin Fiset scored the game-winner shorthanded with 69 seconds left as the Rousseau Sports earned a 5-4 win over the Moncton Flyers in the opening game of the 2009 TELUS Cup on Monday at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

Fiset capitalized on a turnover in the Moncton zone and beat Flyers’ goaltender Scott Cale to give his team a 5-3 lead. Pierre Durepos scored for the Atlantic champs with 6.6 seconds left to provide the final margin of victory.

Antony Courcelles and Sébastien Bergeron also scored for Laval-Bourassa, who are trying to become the 12th consecutive Quebec to medal at the National Midget Championship, but the first since Ste-Foy in 2001 to take home the gold medal.

Allain Saulnier, Dan McNeil and Gino Goguen joined Durepos on the scoresheet for the Flyers, who had just one loss in 13 games coming in, dating back to the start of the New Brunswick playoffs.
