2009 TELUS Cup

Moncton Flyers 1 - Winnipeg Thrashers 7

ZAJAC LEAD THRASHERS – AGAIN – OVER FLYERS

SELKIRK, Man. – Make it a perfect seven for the Winnipeg Thrashers at the National Midget Championship.

Nolan Zajac scored once and added three assists as the Thrashers won their seventh-consecutive round-robin game at the TELUS Cup, 7-1 over the Moncton Flyers on Tuesday night. Winnipeg is 2-0 this year and went 5-0 at last year’s tournament in Arnprior, Ont.

Craig Scott scored twice and Michael Hay added three assists for the Thrashers, who set up a battle of unbeatens with Calgary on Wednesday night (7 p.m. CT). Zajac’s four points give him a tournament-leading seven points through two games, two ahead of Scott, Hay and two others.

Matt Glowa, Robby Lazo, Cody Waterman – on a penalty shot – and Jeremy Olinyk also put their names on the scoresheet for Winnipeg.

The outcome was never in doubt, as the Thrashers led 2-0 after one period and 4-1 after two before pouring it on with three unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes.

Tyrone Sock scored the lone goal for the Flyers (0-2), who will face another stuff test Wednesday afternoon when they face unbeaten Notre Dame (4 p.m. CT).
