HILDEBRAND SPARKS COMEBACK, ICES WIN FOR THRASHERS

SELKIRK, Man. – It looked to be in danger for a while, but the Winnipeg Thrashers’ round-robin winning streak is alive and well at the National Midget Championship.

Cam Hildebrand got the comeback started late in the second period and picked up the eventual game-winner with a shorthanded goal late in the third, capitalizing on a miscue in the Calgary zone, as the Thrashers moved to 3-0 – the only perfect team at the 2009 TELUS Cup – with a 6-5 win over the Calgary Buffaloes on Wednesday night.

Tournament scoring leader Nolan Zajac and Michael Hay also scored twice for the Thrashers, who have not lost in eight preliminary round games, dating back to last’s year TELUS Cup in Arnprior, Ont. Matt Glowa added three assists to the win.

Chris Collins notched a hat trick for the Buffaloes (1-1-1), who led 4-2 midway through the game before allowing Winnipeg four unanswered goals. Brandon McLean and Ryon Moser also scored for the Pacific Region champions, who pulled to within a goal on Collins’ third marker with 52 seconds left but could not complete a comeback of their own.

The win clinches a semifinal berth for the Thrashers, who face unbeaten Notre Dame in a classic-in-the-making on Thursday night (7:30 p.m. CT), while the Buffaloes will look to book a Saturday spot of their own when they face Laval-Bourassa (4 p.m. CT).
