2009 TELUS Cup

Moncton Flyers 5 - Hamilton Reps 3

HANNAY’S BLAST CLINCHES FIRST WIN FOR FLYERS

SELKIRK, Man. – The Moncton Flyers are still alive at the 2009 TELUS Cup.

Sawyer Hannay’s power play goal with 7:32 to go was the difference, giving the Flyers a 5-3 win over Hamilton on Thursday afternoon at the Selkirk Recreation Complex, their first victory at this year’s National Midget Championship.

Moncton (1-3) needs help to make Saturday’s semifinals, but had to have a win over the Reps to have any hope at all. Tyrone Sock, Matt LeBlanc, Allain Saulnier and Jean-Marc Leger also scored for the Flyers, who won the special teams battle – three of their five goals came with the man advantage, while Hamilton also scored three times while a man up.

With the teams even at 2-2 through 40 minutes, Andrew Radjenovic gave the Central Region champions their second lead of the game, converting on a power play 2:03 into the final frame. But the Flyers rattled off the game’s last three goals, capped off by Leger’s empty-netter in the dying seconds.

Michael Holditch and Francesco Agresta joined Radjenovic on the scoresheet for the Reps (0-3-1), who will need to catch a few breaks if they hope to stretch their season into the weekend.
