CANADA ADVANCES TO GOLD MEDAL FINAL WITH WIN OVER JAPAN

Charlottetown, P.E.I. – Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) had a night to remember at the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge. Westlake, who came into Canada’s game against Japan without a goal at the event, erupted for three-consecutive goals in the second and third periods to lift Canada to a 5-0 win over Japan.

The win put Canada into Saturday’s gold medal final against the United States. Canada is attempting to win its third-straight title at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge.

Jeremy Booker (Ajax, Ont.) and Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) also scored for Canada. Benoit St-Amand (St-Hubert, Que.) and Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) split the shutout.

Canada finished atop the round-robin standings with a 3-0 record, followed by the United States at 2-1, Japan at 1-2 and Norway at 0-3. Japan and Norway will face off for the bronze medal final on Saturday (10:30 a.m. AST). The gold medal game, which will be shown on TSN2 and RDS, starts at 2 p.m. AST.
