SOCHI, Russia – Canada’s National Sledge Team has won the bronze medal at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, defeating Norway 3-0 in Saturday’s bronze medal game at Shayba Arena.

The medal is Canada’s fourth all-time at the Paralympics; it won gold in 2006 in Torino, Italy, silver in 1998 in Nagano, Japan, and bronze in 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway, in addition to this year’s third-place finish.

Saturday’s contest was a rematch of the bronze medal game at the 2010 Paralympics in Vancouver, B.C., won 2-1 by the Norwegians, and a rematch of last Sunday’s preliminary round match-up, a 4-0 victory for the Canadians.

Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) scored twice to lead the Canadian offence, while Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) added the other goal as Canada found the back of the net three times in 6:12 early in the second period to break open a scoreless game. Bowden finished with a goal and two assists, and Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) made 10 saves for his third shutout in four games.

Following the game, Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) was named the tournament’s top defenceman.

During the preliminary round, Canada finished atop Group A with a perfect 3-0 record, earning wins over Sweden (10-1) and the Czech Republic (1-0) in addition to its victory over Norway. The Canadians were blanked 3-0 by the United States in their semifinal.
