CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, announced Friday that Jody Hull, head coach of the OHL’s Peterborough Petes, will take over as head coach of Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team for the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, Aug. 11-16 in Piestany, Slovakia, and Breclav, Czech Republic.

Hull, who was originally named an assistant coach on June 12, replaces Derek Laxdal, who has been named head coach of the AHL’s Texas Stars.

In addition, Martin Raymond, head coach of the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltigeurs, has been added to the coaching staff as an assistant coach, joining Eric Veilleux, head coach of the QMJHL’s Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

Hull won a gold medal as an assistant coach with Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship in Sochi, Russia, and a gold medal as video coach at the 2011 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament. The Petrolia, Ont., native also won a gold medal with Canada as a player at the 1988 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Raymond just completed his first season as head coach in Drummondville following four seasons as an assistant coach with the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning and AHL’s Syracuse Crunch and Hamilton Bulldogs. Raymond spent 14 years as the head coach of McGill University’s men’s hockey team, winning CIS Coach of the Year honours in 2005-06.

Forty-four players will gather in Calgary for Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp Aug. 2-5 at the Markin MacPhail Centre, following which 22 players will be selected to represent Canada at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup. Canada has won the annual summer tournament six years in a row and 16 of the last 18 years.
