The Brandon Wheat Kings Win The 2004 National Midget Championship

KENORA, ONT. – The Brandon Wheat Kings were crowned the 2004 National Midget Champions Sunday afternoon at the Kenora Recreation Centre after an exciting 2-1 overtime victory over the College Charles-Lemoyne from Quebec.

Brandon and College Charles-Lemoyne were very evenly matched, as each time they met the games were decided in overtime.

The Brandon Wheat Kings captain, Taylor Langford scored the winning goal with just 12.9 seconds remaining in the first overtime.

The Brandon Wheat Kings win their first ever National Championship, and are the first Manitoban team to ever win a medal at the Championship. As for College Charles-Lemoyne, this silver medal is their first. They have also won one gold medal (1998) and one bronze medal (2002).

Earlier on Sunday, the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs (Pacific) defeated the host team, Kenora Stars 5-2 to win the bronze medal.
