2009 TELUS Cup

Notre Dame Hounds  9 -  Hamilton Reps  3

MCGILLIS’ FOUR POINTS LEAD HOUNDS TO FIRST PLACE

SELKIRK, Man. – Make it an undefeated round robin for the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Hounds wrapped up top spot in the round robin as Pat McGillis scored three goals and earned an assist to lead the way in a 9-3 win over the Hamilton Reps on Friday afternoon. The Hounds (4-0-1) finished the preliminary round as the only team without a loss.

Drew George, Ben Gamache, Lucas Froese, Brent Benson, Jesse Pauls and Bryce Milson also scored as Notre Dame spread around the scoring – in addition to six different goal scorers, 14 players recorded at least one point. The Hounds will await the result of Friday night’s Winnipeg/Laval-Bourassa game to find out when and who they will face in Saturday’s semifinals.

David Ferritto scored twice and captain Thomas Menechella had one for the Reps (0-4-1), who knew entering Friday’s game that they would not be part of the weekend festivities.

Netminder Joel Inouye was unquestionably Hamilton’s best player, turning aside 38 shots – 21 of them in the second period – to keep the Central Region champions within two goals before the Hounds’ offence exploded for four goals in the final nine minutes.
