CALGARY, Alta. – With a $39,100 donation for the 2019-20 season, the BDO Goals for Kids program has now put more than $100,000 into communities across Canada in its three seasons.
In 2017, Hockey Canada partnered with BDO to launch the program, which helps expand local event legacies and assist with offsetting registration and equipment costs for young players.
Every season, Hockey Canada brings four national championships – the National Women’s Under-18 Championship, Esso Cup, TELUS Cup and Centennial Cup presented by Tim Hortons – and three international events – the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, World Junior A Challenge and Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup to communities across the country. The net proceeds from those events remain locally as a legacy to allow them to invest in growing the game.
As a Hockey Canada international marketing partner, BDO expanded its impact through the BDO Goals for Kids program, which sees $50 donated for every goal scored at a national championship and $100 for every goal scored by Team Canada at an international event on home ice.
The totals for this season, which include $5,500 donations to the three communities that were set to host spring national championships prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, push the all-time total to $104,150.
“BDO Canada is proud to partner with Hockey Canada in supporting hockey across the country,” said Pat Kramer, CEO of BDO Canada. “Our organization is committed to helping local communities and this is an important initiative. We look forward to continuing to work with Hockey Canada to provide players with access to a true Canadian sport.”
“The contributions BDO has made to support youth hockey in communities across Canada have had a significant impact on removing barriers to participation, making the game more accessible and providing equipment to communities and families in need,” said Dana Gladstone, vice-president of partnership, strategy and licensing with Hockey Canada. “We are very proud and excited to continue to work alongside BDO to make a meaningful impact on the game of hockey in communities from coast to coast to coast.”
