CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada has announced the 30 players that will attend Canada’s National Para Hockey Team selection camp, Sept. 3-9 at WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Five goaltenders, seven defencemen and 18 forwards were selected by head coach Russ Herrington (Unionville, Ont./York University, OUA), Tyler Dietrich (West Vancouver, B.C.), senior manager of hockey operations, and Marshall Starkman (Thornhill, Ont.), manager of hockey operations. Assistant coach Mike Foligno (Sudbury, Ont.) and goaltending consultant Mike Fountain (Gravenhurst, Ont.) also provided input.

“We are excited to kick off a new season by announcing the 30 players that will compete for a roster spot on Canada’s National Para Hockey Team this year,” Herrington said. “Our selection camp roster features a combination of veteran experience and new faces to our national team, and we look forward to welcoming our athletes to Calgary for a highly-competitive camp ahead of the 2022-23 season.”

The seven-day camp will feature 10 players who won a silver medal at the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing, China (Armstrong, Crane, Dixon, Dunn, Henry, Hickey, Jacobs-Webb, Kingsmill, Lavin, McGregor). Two players who won silver at the 2022 Paralympics were invited to selection camp but are unable to attend (Bridges, Larocque).

“Selection camp marks the start of a new Paralympic quadrennial and an opportunity to integrate some of the players that have been part of our development program with veterans from the national team,” Starkman said. “We are excited about the depth of talent that will attend selection camp, and we know our players will push each other as they compete for an opportunity to wear the Maple Leaf this season.”

Following selection camp, Canada’s National Para Hockey Team will name an expanded roster for the 2022-23 season. The team will participate in various camps throughout the season, while select players will represent Canada in international competition, including the International Para Hockey Cup, Sept. 24-30 in Ostrava, Czechia, the 2022 Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup, Nov. 27-Dec. 3 in Bridgewater, N.S., and the 2023 IPC World Para Hockey Championship.
