CANADA SHUTS OUT KOREA IN SERIES FINALE

JASON LA ROSE

GANGNEUNG, South Korea – Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) scored twice, and Canada’s National Sledge Team finished its para hockey series with a 5-0 win over Korea on Wednesday.

The Canadians swept the series – part of their Paralympic preparations – and outscored the hosts 17-1.

Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.), Corbyn Smith (Monkton, Ont.) and Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) had the other goals for Canada; Bowden and Bridges finished with a goal and an assist apiece.

Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) and Dominic Larocque (Quebec City, Que.) shared the shutout.

McGregor opened the scoring just past the nine-minute mark of the first period with an unassisted effort, and doubled the lead early in the second off a Rob Armstrong (Erin, Ont.) set-up.

Bowden counted a power-play marker just 72 seconds after that, before Smith and Bridges combined on the 4-0 goal 10 minutes into the middle frame.

A pair of veterans were in on the final goal of the series, with Bridges finishing a Bowden feed at 12:52 of the third period.

The Canadians are back on home ice for their next event, hosting Italy, Korea and the United States at the 2017 World Sledge Hockey Challenge; the tournament opens Dec. 3 in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
